Space Brothers is a live-action Japanese movie directed by Yoshitaka Mori and based on a manga by Chuya Koyama. It was released by Toho in Japan on May 5, 2012.
The film stars Shun Oguri as Mutta and Masaki Okada as his younger brother Hibito. When they were 12 and 9, respectively, they made a promise to each other each other that they’d work hard to become astronauts so they can go to space together when they grew up.
Years later in 2025, Hibito is set to be the first Japanese astronaut to land on the moon. Meanwhile, Mutta is a struggling salaryman and had forgotten all about his childhood promise a long time ago.
One day, Hibito asks him to listen to a tape they recorded together one July night in 2006 when they saw a UFO in a nearby park. What Mutta hears will inspire him to take another shot at his childhood dream…
