Sinking of Japan is a Japanese disaster movie directed by Shinji Higuchi. It’s a remake of a 1973 film which was based on a 1973 novel by Sakyo Komatsu. The film was released by Toho in Japan on July 15, 2006.
In the film, Japan is on the verge of being destroyed by a combination of tidal waves and violent volcanic eruptions. With millions of people killed or left stranded, all of the nation’s hopes are pinned to one dangerous plan. In order to save his country and the woman he loves, a submarine pilot is forced to make the ultimate sacrifice.
