Ultraman: The Next, released in Japan as ULTRAMAN, is a theatrically released Ultraman film directed by Kazuya Konaka. It was released in Japan by Shochiku on December 18, 2004 as part of a concerted effort by Tsuburaya Productions to revitalize the Ultraman franchise and make it more relevant with modern mainstream audiences.
Tetsuya Bessho stars as a Japanese Air Self-Defense Force pilot named Shunichi Maki whose F-15 Eagle is hit by a strange glowing red object in the sky, eventually granting him special powers such as telepathy.
Meanwhile, another man has gone through a similar process, but his experience turned him into a giant rampaging beast called “The One”. Eventually Maki discovers that he can transform into a giant silver super hero and fight against it.
