Yatterman (2009)

Yatterman is a Japanese movie directed by Takashi Miike and based on a classic 70s children’s cartoon series. It was produced in 2008 and premiered in New York City on February 6, 2009.

The film stars Sho Sakurai of the popular boy band Arashi as Gan, the son of a toy shop owner, and Saki Fukuda as his girlfriend Ai-chan. Most of the time, they can be found tinkering with robotic inventions in their workshop. However, whenever there’s trouble in the city, they form the crime-fighting team “Yatterman” along with their giant robotic dog Yatter-Bark and a flying toy robot called Omotchama.

Their arch enemies are the Doronbo gang, which consist of a sexy, yet incompetent femme fatale named Doronjo (Kyoko Fukada) and her two idiotic lackeys, Boyacky and Tonzra. The trio will stop at nothing to obtain the wish-granting skull stone for their master, Dokurobei, but Yatterman foils their comically intricate schemes at every turn.
