Yoshiko Tanaka

Yoshiko Tanaka was a Japanese actress and pop idol. She was born on April 8, 1956 in Senju, Adachi-ku, Tokyo and died of breast cancer on April 21, 2011.

Tanaka, who went by the nickname Sue-chan (スーちゃん), was a member of the idol group “Candies”  throughout the 1970s. She took up acting when Candies disbanded in 1978. Her first major starring role was in Shohei Imamura’s award-winning 1989 film Black Rain.

In 1991, Tanaka married Kazuo Odate, older brother of the late actress Masako Natsume.
