Nikkatsu’s new “extreme” film and DVD label Sushi Typhoon now has an official Facebook page with updates on their upcoming releases. First up, an English-subtitled trailer for Seiji Chiba’s Alien vs. Ninja.
In the film, the Iga Ninja, led by Yamata, witness a giant ball of flame crash off in the distance. When they investigate the crash site, they’re attacked by vicious alien creatures with fangs and claws. Yamata and the few remaining survivors swear revenge on their mysterious attackers, but none of their traditional ninja weapons seem to have any effect.
Instead of trying to wedge directors into projects they’re not comfortable with, Sushi Typhoon seems to be letting them go with their strengths. Chiba has already directed a series of historical action movies involving the Iga Ninja including Tensho Iga no Ran (2005), Iga no Ran: Kosoku (2007), and Sengoku: Iga no Ran (2009). The difference is he now has an actual budget, an established effects team, and the notoriety that comes with international distribution.
“Alien vs. Ninja” will be premiering this summer at the 2010 New York Asian Film Festival.
