On Saturday, the official website for Takashi Yamazaki’s Always: Sunset on Third Street ‘64 was updated with a 35-second teaser trailer.

This third film of the blockbuster ALWAYS franchise leaps forward 5 years to 1964, the year of the Tokyo Summer Olympics. This time period not covered in Ryohei Saigan’s original manga, but Saigan did offer input and sign off on the final script.

Plot: 19 years after the war, Japan is filled with excitement as the nation experiences a stunning recovery with rapid economic growth. Meanwhile, Third Street is still bustling with activity. The Chagawa household will soon add a new member, and buisiness is booming at Suzuki Auto. The residents of Third Street are each leading busy day-to-day lives, with a few among them reaching important turning points.

Toho will be releasing “Always: Sunset on Third Street ‘64” in 3D sometime in the first half of 2012.
