A trailer has finally been added to the official website for Takeshi Kobayashi‘s Bandage, a band film written by Shunji Iwai and initially planned to be directed by Ryuhei Kitamura way, way back in 2005.
The film is set in the early 90s, at a time when there was a huge boom of new rock bands flooding the Japanese indie scene. Most of these bands faded into oblivion within a few years, but for a brief moment in time youthful dreamers managed to dominate the music industry. Jin Akanishi of the boy band KAT-TUN stars Natsu, lead singer of a Tokyo-based band called LANDS. Between Natsu’s popularity and Yukiya’s (Kengo Kora) talent, a major label deal is inevitable, but they’ll go through various trials and lineup changes in the process. As LANDS gets more and more successful, tensions within the band rise, friendships fall apart, they clash with adults, and greed becomes a factor. The ups and downs are shown from the perspective of Asako (Kie Kitano), a high school girl who becomes the band’s manager through an unexpected coincidence.
“Bandage” will be released by Toho on January 16, 2010.

I don’t know how much Jin has improved his acting skills, but the movie looks interesting and the rest of the cast is very impressive.
And if Kobayashi-san, the director, thought about him for the leading role the moment he first read Iwai’s script, then I’ll have faith in Jin as well.
Besides, I’m sure the OST will be awesome.
And Kobayashi will team up with Akanishi for the band LANDS in real life! They’re gonna release their first single on Nov 25.
