The Japanese movie news site Cinema Today has uploaded a new trailer for Tomoyuki Furumaya‘s Bushido Sixteen to YouTube. The film is based on a 2007 novel by Tetsuya Honda and was only very recently adapted to a manga illustrated by Jiro Ando (Shion no Ō).
The film stars Riko Narumi (17) as an intense kendo fighter named Kaori who has been training since she was young. Kie Kitano (18) plays Sanae, a girl who has only participated in kendo casually, but somehow manages to beat Kaori in the final tournament of junior high school. Although Sanae doesn’t think much of it, Kaori holds a grudge, setting up a one-sided rivalry that bleeds over into high school. However, being on the same kendo team forces the two together. Eventually, Sanae’s relentless charm manages to break through Kaoru’s gruff exterior and Kaoru’s fighting spirit helps push Sanae to become better at kendo.
“Bushido Sixteen” will be released domestically by Go! Cinema on April 24. 2010.
The song in the trailer is the yet-unreleased “Together Again” by MiChi.
