Earlier today, Final Fantasy illustrator Yoshitaka Amano revealed a 1-minute special video from his debut feature film DEVA ZAN at a press conference announcing new details of the project. The clip in question was subsequently released to various media outlets and film sites, including Movie Collection, which was the first one to re-uploaded it to YouTube.
As reported by Anime News Network, the 3D film is set to get a simultaneous worldwide release in spring 2012. During the press conference (linked above), Amano explained that wanted to put Asian myths in the film so that people all over the world could learn about them. It’s a concept he’s been developing for about a decade.
The protagonist, Zan, is a samurai with no memories who assembles a group of warriors that travel through time and space to fight the legions of darkness. His companion, a large cat-like creature named Panther was revealed in statue form at Opéra de Paris in France last fall and again at Tokyo International Anime Fair 2010 back in March, but was never explained at the time.
