Plot: Within its prefecture, Tokumaru Gakuen High School has become notorious for the yankees (delinquents) that hang around there. Brothers Ichiro and Jiro Okouchi (Hitoshi and Kazuyoshi Ozawa) are legendary for their badass behavior, and together they’ve taken control of the entire school sooner than anyone could have expected. Unfortunately their actions gets too rowdy for the principal to handle and he’s forced to resort to expulsion.

Things quiet down around Tokumaru for a while, but that’s just the calm before the storm. Before the next year’s entrance ceremony, the entire school is abuzz. Ichiro and Jiro’s younger brother Saburo (Hideo Ishiguro) will be attending as an incoming freshman, and he is labeled an “elite yankee” before he even shows his face. When he finally does arrive, he’s immediately surrounded by a gang of followers, willing and eager to follow his lead. The only problem is he’s not really a yankee at all. In fact, he’s kind of a shy dweeb. But the combination of everyone’s lofty expectations and a few dozen misunderstandings eventually results in utter chaos as Saburo tries unsuccessfully to be a normal high school student.

“Elite Yankee Saburo” was originally a manga by Shuji Abe which was turned into an 11-episode TV Tokyo drama in mid-2007. The movie version, directed by Yudai Yamaguchi (Cromartie High: The Movie, Meatball Machine),  brings back the same actors but re-tells the story instead of continuing where the show left off. Slated for release in Japan on February 28, 2009.
