After premiering on Yahoo! Japan a few days ago, the new trailer for Keiichi Hara’s upcoming film Dawn of a Filmmaker: The Keisuke Kinoshita Story (Hajimari no Michi) has been uploaded to Shochiku’s channel on YouTube.
The film is a biopic of prolific film director Keisuke Kinoshita (1912-1998) and marks the live-action debut of Hara, who’s best known for his work on animated projects like the Crayon Shin-chan series, Summer Days with Coo, and Colorful.
Kinoshita is played by Ryo Kase as the film explores several lesser known aspects of his life, such as his loving relationship with his mother (played by Yuko Tanaka) whom he once had to pull across a mountain in a bicycle cart, his experience in the military as a hot-blooded youth who fell out of favor with his superiors, and the episode that led him to temporarily leave Shochiku.
The beginning of the new trailer features a scene in which Kinoshita witnesses the somber expression of a young schoolteacher (Aoi Miyazaki) which would eventually serve as the inspiration for his classic 1954 film Twenty-Four Eyes.
“Dawn of a Filmmaker” will be released in Japan on June 1, 2013.
