Here’s the full trailer for Gravity’s Clown (Juryoku Pierrot). It’s based on a novel by Kotaro Isaka (Accuracy of Death, Fish Story) and is due out in Japan on May 23, 2009. I’m really excited about this cast, not only because the actors involved are really good in general, but their personalities seem uniquely suited for their individual roles.
The story revolves around a seemingly loving family consisting of a kind father (Fumiyo Kohinata), a beautiful mother (Kyoka Suzuki), their first son Izumi (Ryo Kase), and his younger brother Haru (Masaki Okada). They seem perfectly normal, but the outward appearance of happiness belies the tragic circumstances surrounding Haru’s birth; he is the product of his mother’s brutal rape by a criminal. However, he was nonetheless raised as a normal member of the family—receiving the same love and attention shown to Izumi.
When Izumi and Haru grow up, a serial arsonist begins setting fires and leaving behind puzzling graffiti on walls at the crime scenes. Izumi starts to unravel the mystery of the graffiti, with each location drawing him ever closer to the unexpected truth.
