The film is based on a manga by mystery writer Takemaru Abiko, who’s known for writing the script for the hit 1994 sound novel “Kamaitachi no Yoru”.
Miura plays a man named Ryota who encounters a mysterious girl named Akane (Natsuna) in the apartment of a woman who was stabbed to death. Suspecting her of the crime, Ryota confines her to a bed. He decides to attempt to solve the case on his own, but surprisingly, Akane tells him “I’ll solve it”.
Why was Ryota at the scene of a murder? Why did Akane arrive afterward? Without knowing anything about each other, the pair enter into a partnership to reveal the real culprit.
As the trailer shows, most of the film takes place within the confines of the apartment as Ryota and Akane conduct their investigation by making use of the internet, their mobile phones, and back-and-forth debate.
“Kankin Tantei” will be released in Japan on June 1, 2013.
The theme song featured briefly in the trailer is “Toki no Nukegara” by the rock band Pirokalpin.
