Here’s the trailer for Shinju Funabiki’s Keitai Kareshi (literally “cell phone boyfriend”), which seems to be about 30% supernatural thriller and 70% showcase for up-and-coming teen actors.
The song in the trailer is “LφST” by Erino Yumiki. Two versions of the video have been uploaded to the film’s YouTube channel.
Plot: Mayumi suddenly commits suicide, leaving behind an email that simply states “...killed by boyfriend”. Her grief-stricken classmates, Satomi (Umika Kawashima) and Yuka (Aki Asakura) discover that Mayumi’s death may be linked to a cell phone dating simulation game called “Keitai Kareshi” and decide to investigate futher. Satomi searches through Mayumi’s cell phone and finds an app called “Keitai Kareshi: Riku”. Soon, strange things start happening around her. A girl named Eri (Nozomi Maeda) dies when she tries to take the game herself, and is left holding a cell phone displaying the message “Love Gauge: 0”. The mystery deepens when Satomi takes the cell phone of her old friend Kumi and sees the face of her high school crush, Naoto (Hideo Ishiguro) on the screen.
“Keitai Kareshi” is being jointly distributed by Gonzo and Synergy and will open in Japan on October 24, 2009.
