Reprising her role from Takayuki Takuma’s original stage play, actress Shihori Kanjiya plays a woman named Mako who lives in a group home because her mental development stopped at a kindergarten level. Her father, mangaka Aijou Ippon (Naoto Takenaka), takes a job as a live-in staff member at the home in order to take care of her.
Somewhat shockingly, the teaser begins with a newscaster announcing that Mako has passed away before we’re shown various scenes featuring her and her father together in the group home.
The theme song is a cover of Ann Lewis’s 1974 hit “Goodbye My Love” performed by Miyagi-born singer-songwriter Ikumi Kumagai. Takuma has stated that the song was what originally inspired him to create this work.
“Angel Home” will be released by Toei in Japan on May 25, 2013.
