In Kaito Okachimachi’s If Blessed, male fashion model Masashi Kubota plays a petty thief named Jun Nagino who breaks into a home looking for money and winds up impulsively murdering a couple in the process. He gets arrested and his initial trial leads to a guilty verdict and death sentence. Jun’s lawyer tries to submit an appeal to a higher court, but he personally withdraws it and accepts his fate.
One day Jun is visited by a beautiful Christian woman (Machiko Ono). She is Kaoru Kawahara, the fiancee of the man Jun murdered. By all rights she should despise Jun, but she’s also filled with mixed emotions due to the fact that he both exposed her fiance’s unfaithfulness and punished him in one fell swoop. Without understanding why, Kaoru gradually becomes attracted to Jun. Although their communications through visiting room window are strictly monitored, Kaoru manages to sneak a letter to him by hiding it in a bible and their peculiar relationship eventually grows into a forbidden love.
Distributor T-Joy will be releasing “Masakiku Araba” at their own Shinjuku Wald 9 cinema complex on January 9, 2010 with a nation-wide road show to follow.
