On Saturday, the official website for Makoto Tanaka’s Drucker in the Dugout: A Japanese Baseball Girl Meets Peter Drucker was updated with a full trailer and second teaser.
The film is based on Natsumi Iwasaki’s best-selling book which attempts to answer the Japanese title’s question ‘What if the Female Manager of a High School Baseball Team read Drucker’s “Management”?’
Atsuko Maeda of the pop idol group AKB48 stars as Minami Kawashima, a girl who becomes the manager of a high school baseball team for her best friend who has fallen ill. Looking for guidance, she goes to the book store and mistakenly buys “Management: Tasks, Responsibilities, Practices”, written by the late management consultant, Peter Drucker. Although the book isn’t specifically about baseball, Kawashima takes Drucker’s management philosophies to heart, carefully utilizing them in an attempt to transform her players from a group of unmotivated underachievers into a real team with a legitimate chance to reach the annual championship tournament at Koshien Stadium.
Toho will be releasing “Drucker in the Dugout: A Japanese Baseball Girl Meets Peter Drucker” in Japan on June 4, 2011. NHK will begin airing a 10-episode anime series inspired by the novel on April 25, 2011.
