With its domestic release a little over a month away, a new trailer has been released for Mutant Girls Squad, the new cross-genre gorefest co-directed by Yoshihiro Nishimura (Tokyo Gore Police), Tak Sakaguchi (Samurai School), and Noboru Iguchi (The Machine Girl) with backing by Nikkatsu for their newly-created Sushi Typhoon sub-label.
In sort of a loose take on X-Men, the film stars Yumi Sugimoto as a high school girl named Rin who begins to notice a sharp pain in her right arm on her 16th birthday. As her arm mutates into a deadly weapon, it becomes clear that she’s not a normal human. Soon, Rin is targeted by a special forces unit who brutally murder her parents right in front of her. Driven by rage, Rin utilizes her newly-mutated arm to cut down the soldiers one by one. Eventually, a mysterious man and young girl arrive with a special iron mask. Soon, Rin will be transformed into a “battle girl”, utilizing both her mutant powers and acrobatic abilities to fight against mutant-hunting special forces with the help of two other uniquely-mutated battle girls (Yuko Takayama and Suzuka Morita).
“Mutant Girls Squad” is being distributed domestically by Toei Video and will get some late show screenings at Cinema Rise and Theater N Shibuya from May 22, 2010. It will get its international premiere at the New York Asian Film Festival this summer.
