Making the Internet rounds today is the new teaser trailer for the upcoming yakuza film Outrage, Takeshi Kitano’s much-heralded return to the genre that made him an international icon amongst fans of Asian cinema and darling of the film festival circuit in the mid-90s and early 00s.
Plot: Big-time crime boss Sekiuchi (Soichiro Kitamura) heads a yakuza syndicate which claims territory throughout most of the Kanto region. When he decides he isn’t comfortable with the partnership Ikemoto (Jun Kunimura) has with an unaffiliated rival, Ikemoto enlists the assistance of a low-ranking crew leader named Otomo (Kitano) to help him save face. For some reason, Otomo always seems to get stuck with the dirty work, getting no credit when things go well and all the blame when things go bad.
“Outrage” will be collaboratively released in Japan by Office Kitano and Warner Bros. on June 12, 2010.
