A record company office worker named Kanna (Aoi Miyazaki) discovers an aging punk rock band called Shonen Merikensack (roughly “Brass Knuckle Boys") and has to represent them on behalf of her company. Slated for release on February 14, 2009.

I hadn’t thought of that.. but it really is the exact same scenario. Seems like it’s more over the top though thanks to Kankuro Kudo and a better cast.

Sounds like they took the sub-plot from Backdancers and turned it into it’s own movie.
I’ve been wanting to check out another Aoi Miyazaki movie since seeing Nana. This looks promising.
