The first TV spot has been released for Takashi Yamazaki‘s live-action adaptation of Space Battleship Yamato, nearly a year before it’s scheduled to be released in Japan. The project cost an estimated 2 billion yen (about $20 million USD) and will be the first of the franchise to use the English title domestically in an effort to appeal to international audiences as early as possible.
The film stars Takuya Kimura of the boy band SMAP as Susumu Kodai and Meisa Kuroki as Yuki Mori. According to Tokyograph, formerly male crew members Aihara and Dr. Sado are played by actresses Maiko and Reiko Takashima in this version.
“Space Battleship Yamato” will be released by Toho in December 2010.

I wonder if the shot of Meisa Kuroki followed by those ship parts going together was subconscious editing. Can’t blame em.
This Teaser was released yesterday(Japanese time)in the comercial block when the Johnny’s Countdown was on.
This teaser is just released here in Brasil and all I can say about this movie is: INCRIDBLE!!!
seems to be going for the JJ Abrams Star Trek look minus the lens flares, lol. Will be willing to see it providing the cgi does not suck. Don’t want an english dub though, would prefer subtitles in english on a dvd release, or cinema. At least this is faithful rather than the starblazers movie trilogy that would have cost hundreds of millions of dollars and changed the storyline to the crew being on the uss Arizona.
It looks very good. There is one thing however, the hairstyle of the main character is very unnatural and distracting.
WOW!
That was my response 3 decades ago when I first saw ‘Star Blazers’ on American TV
YES!
My response when I first heard Disney was behind a live action ‘Star Blazers’ back in the mid-90’s
OUCH!
When I heard it was canceled.
HALLELUJAH!
When I read the sub-par script; I was glad it never saw the light of day.
Now, when Mr. Kimura zipped up that white and red jacket, and that guy in the captain’s chair was sporting a beard and a naval uniform, I was THRILLED.
I might even get a RT ticket to Japan to catch it there!
Como todos os fãs espero ancioso por este filme pois o trailer, ja mostra a perfeição com que foi feito e os efeitos com certeza irão merecer o Oscar.
Parabens a Todos !
There is a new 1min 31sec trailer that was aired on tv in June that shows more than the December one. You can find it on Youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTuPK66J300
