A new full trailer has been released for Hideo Nakata‘s new psychological thriller The Incite Mill: 7-Day Death Game. This is the first actual footage that’s been publicly released, as the original teaser was made up entirely of sequenced stills set to suspenseful music.
The script is based on a best-selling novel by Honobu Yonezawa. The story involves ten people who are lured to the mysterious “Anki Mansion” by help wanted ads offering 112,000 yen per hour (about $1,200 USD). Participants are informed that they’ll be recorded 24 hours a day and are given two ominous rules: first, each of them must return to their private room by 10pm each night; and second, the experiment would continue either for 7 days or until there are only two survivors left. If all went according to plan, the participants would go home after 7 days, earning a total of 18 million yen. However, on the second day, one of them is shot to death.
Warner Bros will be releasing “The Incite Mill: 7-Day Death Game” in Japan on October 16, 2010.

@llz: There have been a lot of “game” movies lately. Even over the past 2 years. I think it must be because people liked Liar Game so much? Coupled with the bad economy; people start coming up with script ideas about what one might do for money if desperate.
@Kevin Ouellette: Or because they think movies should be like reality tv shows. Nakata has felt down in movie making since his mind is overwhelmed by Hollywood concepts. I miss his very particular way to construct suspense.
@eric: Absolutely, I generally try to stay neutral when I’ve only seen the trailer, but it’s going to take a miracle for this one to be any good. The cast is terrible and the premise has been used a million times.
we’re still predominantly stuck in the mindset that a good simple hook - the name of the director, often, and, once again in this case - is enough to make it worth buying. from the look of this, it wasn’t enough to make the film, let alone buy it. nakata’s ring (& sequel) were great, kaidan was surprisingly effective but not quite great, this looks like a floater.
Does this remind anyone else of Tatsuya Egawa’s KING GAME? The trailer for which was posted 2 days ago, no less.
I’m getting a serious case of deja vu here…
