The theatrical trailer is now out for Setsuro Wakamatsu’s The Sun That Doesn’t Set. A 3-minute promo trailer was released for this one a few weeks ago, but this version seems to be edited a bit more dramatically.
Based on a best-selling novel by Toyoko Yamasaki, the film is said to have a budget of around $20 million and stars Ken Watanabe as the chairman of an airline workers labor union during aftermath of the tragic 1985 crash of JAL Flight 123. Due to the way the story portrays people who are still in positions of power today, the airline industry has long been unhelpful in bringing this story to the big screen, essentially putting the kibosh on a previous attempt in 2000. However, due to the large budget and the ability to simulate airplane scenes with CGI, the film has finally been completed.
Toho will be releasing “The Sun That Doesn’t Set” in Japan on October 24, 2009.
