Masaya (Joe Odagiri) moved to Tokyo from Fukuoka to study art, but can’t quite seem to find any real direction in life. He has an irresponsible streak he inherited from his father (Kaoru Kobayashi), but luckily that was balanced out by his having strong, kind mother (Kirin Kiki/Yayako Uchida). That’s why when he finds out she’s been diagnosed with cancer he knows he has to be there for her like she’s always been there for him.
