A teaser and full trailer have been posted on the new official website for the long-awaited sixth feature film in the Space Battleship Yamato anime series which comes 26 years after the 5th film. As far as I know, this is the first footage from the new film to come out since a 9-minute CGI-heavy promotional video was leaked to the web back in June.

According to Tokyograph, the new film is set in 2220 (17 years after the events of “Final Yamato”), at a time when Earth is threatened by an expanding black hole. As 300 million people prepare for evacuation, the fleet is suddenly attacked. The Yamato, now captained by the 38-year-old Susumu Kodai, is forced to retaliate. Also aboard are Susumu’s wife Yuki and their daughter Miyuki.

Distributor Toho will be releasing “Space Battleship Yamato: Rebirth Chapter” in Japan on December 12, 2009.

For the 30-second teaser, see this link.

I remember running home from school to watch Star Blazers.  It was a great show way before its time.

Wow, can’t wait to see what the ‘Argo/Yamato’ will be like in 2009!!
