Trailer - USB

Here’s the new trailer for USB, the latest film by Shutaro Oku (Cain’s Descendant, Death of Domomata). To be honest, I hadn’t really heard much about this one before the official website was updated yesterday, but Oku sure puts together some interesting casts. The film will be opening in Shibuya’s Cinema Rise in June.

The story is set in a town in Ibaraki Prefecture which is still being negatively impacted by the spread of radioactive contamination caused by nuclear power plant accident several years earlier. The main character, 26-year-old Yuichiro (Kazushi Watanabe), is studying to be a doctor so that he can take over the family practice and follow in his recently-deceased father’s footsteps, but for now he’s still living with his mom (Kaori Momoi). Yuichiro runs afoul of the local yakuza family, Ohashi-gumi and their boss (Ren Osugi) when he racks up too much gambling debt. In desperation, he becomes involved with a dangerous clinical trial being conducted by his cousin Shunichi (Nao Omori) which consists of participants receiving heavy doses of radiation. The film’s title refers to the USB thumb drive he wears around his neck like a dog collar during the trial.
