Trailer - Villon’s Wife [English-subtitled]

Here’s the full trailer for Kichitaro Negishi’s adaptation of Osamu Dazai’s 1947 novel, Villon’s Wife. In the film, Takako Matsu stars as the wife of an abusive, unfaithful, and alcoholic writer named Otani (Tadanobu Asano). One night Otani stumbles home from a local bar followed by the bar’s owner (Masato Ibu) who accuses him of having grabbed 5,000 yen from his cash register. To avoid further trouble, Otani’s wife offers to work at the bar herself to pay off her husband’s debt. She actually comes to enjoy the work, and maintains a positive outlook through all her misfortune as well as a love for her husband which seems to transcend conventional logic.

Toho will be releasing “VIllon’s Wife” in Japanese theaters on October 10, 2009.
